At ISK, we embrace the linguistic diversity of our international community. Having over 40 different nationalities on board, we welcome students from all corners around the world.

While English is our lingua franca during lessons, we want to ensure that students with a different mother tongue can fully access the curriculum, participate in classroom activities, and feel that they belong in our school community.

As English is often the primary language of instruction in international schools, EAL support helps bridge language barriers, enabling students to develop their language skills at their own pace and fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth.

Our team in Support Services takes students on board who need more individual help to improve their English language proficiency skills.

Our teaching staff is well equipped to differentiate and use UDL design to cater for speakers of other languages in the mainstream classroom.

The Student Support team will determine a baseline level for each child, from which Individual targets are set and written in a language learning plan.

Students might receive EAL support in small groups several times a week with the Support team, while they are part of a language-rich classroom set up during their other lessons. As collaboration is key, the Support team works very closely with the classroom teachers to pre-teach and consolidate important concepts used in the classroom.
