Global Citizenship
At ISK, we believe in preparing students to be active and responsible participants in our globally connected world.
As reflected in our vision and mission, we believe this involves developing global citizens who are engaged in the local communities in which they live, as well as in the larger global community. We seek to prompt students to be meaningful change-makers on local and global issues. Meaningful engagement with community partners here in Rwanda is central to global citizenship at ISK, which we do through a model of service-learning rooted in the motto of “Learn from; Act with".
Community Partners
Over the past few years, ISK has been working to develop reciprocal relationships with a couple of key community partners, including the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) and The Green Protector.
ASYV is an intentionally designed community of care and education for vulnerable young people from around Rwanda.
The Green Protector is a Rwanda youth-led climate-action NGO, working on environmental advocacy and education here in Rwanda and globally.
Together with these partners, ISK has hosted an Annual Climate Action Summit at which ISK students present and display their climate-related learning, while also learning about the climate work being done by students in other schools in Kigali, as well as organizations, companies, and projects throughout Rwanda.

Service Learning
ISK’s Service-Learning focuses on developing compassionate global citizens by engaging students in meaningful change through learning and action. The approach follows the Empathy-to-Impact cycle:
- Care – Build empathy for an issue.
- Aware – Learn directly from communities.
- Able – Gain skills to address challenges.
- Impact – Take meaningful action
ISK emphasizes “learning from and acting with” others rather than imposing solutions. Service-learning is embedded in curriculum, clubs, and activities, ensuring students learn from experience, reflect on their actions, and collaborate with communities for real change.
