Counseling
Our counseling program at ISK helps elementary students begin to develop their self-concept and feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to learn about responsible decision making, being respectful friends and coping skills, as well as character values.
It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family. All students from Pre-K to Grade 5 will receive Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons during their morning meeting or WINN time.
Students receive small group and individual counseling on an as needed basis with the Elementary Counsellor.

College Counselling
We believe post-high school planning is a process that requires partnerships between the school, family, and student. It is important to provide a supportive environment where counselors can help students explore their interests and strengths. Working together, through these partnerships, we can create a meaningful individualized plan that aligns with the student’s goals.
Our secondary school counselor is available to meet with high school students individually to discuss college/career planning. During this time, the counselor gets to know the student’s strengths, skills, and interests. Additionally, the counselor and student explore career pathways and educational opportunities needed for those fields. Once a career pathway has been established, the counselor can work with the student to determine the best course offerings and activities, gain financial literacy, and identify the best path to meet their goal.
At ISK we use the BridgeU online platform. Through BridgeU, students are able to complete career exploration assessments. Using the results of these assessments, we work with students on career development and planning. This planning includes investigating post-secondary education opportunities that align with career goals.
The secondary school counsellor works regularly with high school students to help them understand the complexities of the admissions process. The counsellor addresses their questions regarding college/university applications, scholarships, and college entrance exams.
